Louise Leong is a California based arts worker, printmaker, and illustrator. She has been with UC Santa Cruz since 2019 in exhibitions management with the Sesnon Gallery and Institute of the Arts and Sciences.
Her work has been exhibited internationally in addition to regularly in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her bold prints and illustrations are influenced by the humorous nuggets in the mundane landscapes and interactions people experience throughout their day.
She was a member of the Printmakers at the Tannery (PATT) at the Tannery Arts Center in Santa Cruz, CA from 2012-2019. In 2018 she joined the Little Giant Collective to open a new printmaking cooperative space in downtown Santa Cruz. The LGC space opened on February 1, 2019. Louise has taught art workshops for Youth Now!, a Watsonville-based after school program, Porter College Creative Commons, and for the Prison Arts Project in the Santa Cruz County Jail.
In this talk she will discuss creative practice and community projects, including the queer AAPI gardening collective Bitter Cotyledons, and the Solitary Garden public art project on the UCSC campus.
